Spotlight Initiative is a flagship example of what UN80 reforms look like in practice. A High-Impact Initiative of the UN Secretary-General, Spotlight Initiative is the world's largest targeted effort to end all forms of violence against women and girls (EVAWG). Launched in 2017 with a seed funding commitment of EUR 500 million from the European Union, it represents an unprecedented global effort to invest in gender equality as a precondition and driver for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

This year we mark the 25th anniversary of partnership between the EU and the African Union (AU). To acknowledge and celebrate this milestone and the Spotlight Initiative Africa Regional Programme 2.0 (SIARP 2.0), the EU, AU, and UN will co-host a high-level event during UNGA80.

This event will bring together senior representatives from all three institutions, alongside African leaders, women's rights advocates, and other key partners, to reaffirm their shared commitment to EVAWG and underscore the importance of trilateral cooperation in delivering transformative, continent-wide change.
