On Tuesday, 7 July 2026 – 15:00-16:30 (EDT) Conference Room 11 at the United Nations Headquarters, New York, the High level side event entitled '' Combatting trafficking for the purposes of sexual exploitation by armed and terrorist groups - Closing information gaps and strengthening cooperation to promote accountability for survivors ." will be held. In 2016, the Security Council adopted its first resolution specifically addressing trafficking in persons – critically underscoring its linkages with conflict-related sexual violence, as well as terrorism and other transnational organized criminal activities. Resolution 2331 (2016) followed successive reports of the Secretary-General on Conflict-Related Sexual Violence (CRSV), which had highlighted clear trends and patterns of sexual violence and exploitation occurring alongside abduction and trafficking in persons in conflict areas, perpetrated by organized criminal networks and armed groups.
